What Jodi looks at with owners

Six conversations most owners put off. You do not have to have them alone.

Tax-conscious strategies

Some life insurance and executive benefit designs are built with tax advantages. For a successful owner they can be one piece of keeping more of what the business earns. Jodi walks you through whether any of them fit, and your CPA gets the full picture.

Partners and buy-sell plans

If you have a partner, what happens to the business if one of you dies or becomes disabled? Insurance can fund a buy-sell agreement so the surviving owner can buy out the family at a fair price, without draining the company.

Key people

Some people are hard to replace: a top producer, an operations lead, you. Key person coverage gives the business money to recruit, retrain and reassure lenders and clients if someone essential is suddenly gone.

Your own income

Owners rarely have sick days built in. Disability income, critical illness and hospital coverage can keep money flowing to your household while you recover, so you are not running the business from a hospital bed.

Loans and lenders

Many business loans, including SBA loans, ask for life insurance assigned to the lender. Jodi can help you put the right coverage in place quickly so a closing is not held up.

Commercial coverage

Liability, property and the policies the business itself needs, reviewed alongside your personal plan so nothing overlaps, and nothing important is left uncovered.

Alongside your CPA

Jodi works with your advisors, not around them.

The best plans happen when your CPA, your banker and your insurance agent are on the same page. Jodi brings clear numbers and plain explanations so your CPA can weigh in quickly and confidently.

Questions

What owners usually ask first.

What kind of business owner is this for?

Owners of small, successful businesses: professional practices, trades, family companies and partnerships. If the business is doing well and you are starting to worry about taxes, succession or what happens if you get sick, it is worth a conversation.

Do I have to replace my current insurance?

No. Jodi starts by looking at what you already have. Often the best outcome is simply knowing your current coverage does the job.

Will you work with my CPA?

Yes, and Jodi encourages it. Tax-related strategies should always be reviewed by your CPA or tax professional before you decide. Many of her clients come to her through their CPA in the first place.

Is this tax advice?

No. Jodi is a licensed insurance agent, not a tax advisor. She explains how insurance products are designed and helps you bring good questions to your CPA.
